The Role

Finance Data Analytics & Finance Transformation – Global Markets (Up to VP Level – no direct reports)

Global Investment Bank/ Financial Markets Trading & Brokerage Group

Finance Transformation | Data Analytics | Product Control | FP&A

The Opportunity

Martis Search is representing a leading global Financial Services Trading and Brokerage organisation that is looking to hire a permanent “Finance Data Analytics & Transformation Manager (up to VP level)” to join its expanding Finance Change function.

This is an exciting opportunity to become involved in a major, long-term global Finance Transformation programme, helping to fundamentally change how financial and trading data is consolidated, analysed and utilised to support strategic decision-making across the business.

Our client operates across multiple global asset classes, including Cash Equities, Fixed Income, Futures & Options, FX, Derivatives and Commodities.

The central objective of this project is to establish a single, reliable source of financial, accounting and trading data across the organisation’s global operations (for Senior Managers across Trading, Finance & Accounting, Risk Management etc to makes quick and accurate decisions on what certain products, Desks are making and what certain things in the business are costing?).

Currently, financial information is generated across numerous trading platforms, accounting systems and business divisions. This can result in inconsistencies between departmental reporting, creating challenges for Finance and senior management when assessing profitability, expenditure and overall business performance.

The successful candidate will help design and develop a centralised, enterprise-wide financial data environment, bringing together complex datasets to create a more accurate, consistent and accessible source of Management Information (MI).

This will enable senior management to gain a clearer understanding of the organisation’s financial performance, including profitability by business division, asset class and geographical region, alongside expenditure, financial controls and statutory reporting requirements.

This is a genuine opportunity to help build and shape a new global Finance Data Analytics capability, rather than simply maintain existing reporting processes.

The role sits between Finance and the central Data function and combines Finance & Accounting knowledge, financial markets experience, data modelling, analytics and automation.

This is a highly visible, hands-on position involving daily interaction with senior management and extensive collaboration across Finance, Product Control, FP&A, Risk, Technology, Data Analytics and Business Change.

The position is at up to VP level and carries no direct people-management responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and integrate centralised financial datasets across multiple global trading platforms, booking systems and accounting applications.
  • Help establish a consistent, reliable source of financial and trading data to support global Management Information (MI) and strategic business decisions.
  • Analyse and interpret complex trading, financial and accounting information to support Management P&L reporting, Balance Sheet substantiation, statutory reporting and financial controls.
  • Consolidate and reconcile financial information from multiple business divisions, geographical regions and asset classes to improve reporting accuracy and consistency.
  • Develop reporting and analytics solutions that enable senior management to assess profitability, revenues, expenditure and financial performance across the global business.
  • Design and implement data analytics, reconciliation and automation solutions to improve existing Finance processes and reduce manual workloads.
  • Develop tools to reconcile trading-system data against the General Ledger, ensuring data accuracy, integrity and consistency.
  • Utilise advanced Microsoft Excel and, where appropriate, data analytics and automation tools such as Alteryx, Power Query, Power BI, VBA and Python to manipulate, analyse and present complex financial information.
  • Develop Management Information (MI), reporting dashboards and financial data models to support Finance and senior management decision-making.
  • Work closely with enterprise Data Engineering, Analytics and IT teams to develop scalable, longer-term data solutions, including potential in-house or third-party platforms.
  • Support the development of structured datasets suitable for future AI-driven Finance applications.
  • Engage with senior stakeholders globally to understand business requirements, identify reporting inconsistencies and implement practical solutions.
  • Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT), process documentation, systems enhancements and the implementation of new reporting and automation tools.
  • Act as a key Finance subject matter expert, helping ensure that data solutions accurately reflect the underlying trading activity, accounting treatment and financial reporting requirements.

Candidate Requirements

Our client is ideally seeking a candidate who combines a strong Finance & Accounting foundation with hands-on Data Analytics, Financial Modelling, Finance Transformation or Automation experience, gained within a regulated Financial Services environment.

The following backgrounds would be particularly attractive:

  • Ideally approximately 5–6 years’ relevant experience, although candidates with slightly more, or less experience will be considered depending on their technical capabilities and Financial Services background.
  • Experience gained within a global Investment Bank, Brokerage, Commodities Trading firm, Hedge Fund, Asset Manager or similar high-volume, trading-focused Financial Services organisation.
  • A Fully qualified, or part-qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) would be advantageous, although strong non-accounting candidates with relevant Finance and Data Analytics experience will also be considered.
  • Candidates who began their careers within a Big Four Accounting or Consulting firm (PwC, Deloitte, EY or KPMG), particularly within Audit, or Financial Services Assurance, before transitioning into Finance Transformation, FP&A Analytics, Data Analytics or Product Control Change within Financial Services are particularly encouraged to apply.
  • A strong understanding of Finance & Accounting principles, including Management P&L, statutory reporting, General Ledger reconciliations, Balance Sheet substantiation and financial controls.
  • Experience working with complex financial datasets, trading-system information, financial modelling, Management Information reporting or Finance process automation.
  • An understanding of financial instruments such as Cash Equities, Fixed Income, Futures & Options, FX, Derivatives and Commodities would be highly beneficial. Exposure to multiple asset classes is particularly attractive.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills are essential, together with excellent data manipulation, analytical, numerical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Practical experience with one or more data analytics and automation tools, including Alteryx, Power Query, Power BI, VBA, Python or similar technologies, would be highly advantageous.
  • The ability to interpret complex financial and trading data, understand the underlying accounting and business implications, and translate that information into meaningful Management Information.
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal and stakeholder management skills are essential. Candidates must be confident engaging with senior management, explaining complex financial and technical information, and collaborating across multiple global departments.
  • A detail-oriented, control-focused approach, combined with strong commercial awareness and the ability to identify opportunities for process improvement and automation.
  • A proactive, intellectually curious and solutions-focused mindset, with the ability to contribute to the design and development of a new global Finance Data Analytics capability.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

This is not a traditional Financial Accounting, FP&A or pure IT Data Engineering position.

Instead, it offers an opportunity for a Finance professional with strong technical and analytical capabilities to play a central role in transforming how a major global Financial Services organisation manages, reconciles, analyses and reports its financial information.

The successful candidate will be involved in a substantial, long-term transformation programme, supporting the organisation’s continued international growth, business expansion and evolving reporting requirements.

The position offers:

  • A high-profile global Finance Data Transformation project, with the opportunity to help build a new centralised financial data capability.
  • Exposure to complex financial products, global trading platforms and multiple international business divisions.
  • Significant interaction with senior management and key stakeholders across Finance, Risk, Technology and Business Change.
  • The opportunity to combine Finance & Accounting expertise with Data Analytics, Automation, Financial Modelling and emerging AI applications.
  • A hands-on, technically challenging VP-level position without direct people-management responsibilities.
  • Excellent opportunities for professional development within a growing global Financial Services organisation.
